WHAT IS UP YALL :D
My name is EJ Ruelos (he/him/his) and I am currently studying Kinesiology at SDSU as well as serving as the chairperson for Andrés Bonifacio Samahan for this 2021-2022 academic school year! As chairperson, I’m essentially responsible for ensuring that everything within our organization runs smoothly, whether it be by helping out my fellow eboard members with their tasks and getting them the connections they need, networking and collaborating with other clubs and orgs, being a representative of this org at events whenever it calls for it, or just filling out important paperwork.
A little bit about myself, I was born and raised in Yokosuka, Japan and moved around a bit (Bangor WA, Lemoore CA, and back around a few times) as a part of a navy family until we settled in the San Diego back in 2014 and I’ve been here ever since! I spend a lot of my time learning and honing new ways to express myself, whether it be through art, dance, or song. In high school, I was a band kid (clarinet, bassoon, alto sax, and eventual drum major ahha ha ^-^) and also joined my high school's color guard team where I now coach! If I’m not binge watching Anime or How I Met Your Mother, vibin’ to my 2000’s R&B, Oldies but Goldies, and Broadway jams playlists on Spotify, or coming up with choreo in my backyard, then i'm probably out traveling, exploring, eating, and having fun with friends and family!
I’m looking forward to getting to be back on campus and continuing the college experience from where I left off pre-pandemic during my first-year: meeting new people, joining and getting involved in other orgs, and taking part in the one I now help lead along with the rest of ShinyBoard (all within covid guidelines of course :^). While a bit overwhelming to be back so suddenly, I’m glad to be here and to make the most out of my experiences and to help make someone else's as well!
I originally joined AB Samahan to learn more about my culture but got so much more than just that out of it. Before I knew it, I was a part of a loving and caring community that goes the extra mile in ensuring that you feel welcomed to the table despite being a relatively large organization. I was given resources I never knew I needed: academic tutoring, student advising, and cultural supplements, to personal guidance and friendships that’ll last a lifetime. Along with all of this, AB Samahan is such a diverse community to where there is almost a guarantee that you’ll find someone or something that suits your needs and interests!
I can’t wait for the chance to meet y’all and see what we have in store; we’re pulling out all the stops this year B) If yall ever want to find me, I’ll probably be the one making random noises or making ad libs no one asked to hear. N E WAYS, feel free to contact me anytime, whenever you need it, and even if you don’t :^) I hope to serve you to the best of my ability and I guess I’ll see y’all around.
Welcome to our pamilya!
