My name is Ysa Siazon (she/her/hers), I’m a 2nd year Nursing major, and I am this year’s Sports and Recreation Coordinator! As your Sports and Rec, I plan and organize all the sports-related and recreational activities for Samahan, hence the name Sports and Rec LOL. My main event is Friendship Games, which is a huge event where all the Filipino organizations in California (and even Arizona and Nevada!) come together and participate in a friendly competition of games, dances, and spirit rallies! Aside from that, I also put on other events throughout the year like Intramurals, Sports Day, and more!

I was born and raised in Stockton, California, which is south of Sacramento NORCAL GANGGGG!!!! I grew up having such a busy schedule filled with extracurricular activities and chores that I barely had any free time, so I’ve never had any true hobbies *sigh*.... so much sadness. But if and when I do have free time, you can find me either being lame and watching Youtube videos or being spontaneous and going on adventures, exploring the world with the ones I love. Also! I’m a big outdoorsy person! I grew up doing a lot of outdoor activities like camping and boating, wakeboarding, skiing, snowboarding, shooting, and off-roading! Ever since quarantine started, I’ve done nothing but occupy my time by watching HGTV, Netflix, or Disney Plus. Just recently, I finally got into the MCU, so I’ve been on a marathon watching 1-2 movies a day, and it’s just … YES. And can I just say… Infinity War is the greatest movie of all time UGH.

Before college, I always knew I wanted to join a Filipino organization because of how much my older sister hyped it up when she was involved in hers. Little did I know, AB Samahan meant so much more to me than I ever expected. Being in Samahan made me realize that I wasn’t who I thought I really was; it taught me so much about myself. My whole life, I was a very shy and quiet person who didn’t like approaching people. But when I moved away from home and joined Samahan, I suddenly had the urge to talk to new people and make new friends; for the first time in my life, I genuinely felt different. (But a good different!) I was social and outgoing, and I was the happiest I’ve ever been. Even though I knew absolutely no one, I was super excited going to my first GBM, my first Roll Call practice, my first FG practice. If it weren’t for the welcoming environment of Samahan, I would have never come to see the person I am today. Aside from that, you’ve probably heard that this org provides a home away from home, and I can’t help but agree that we really are one, big, happy family. Everyone can always use some of that, so that’s one reason to come out and visit us :)

If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s the fact that I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth in the world and that I’m 10% human 90% sugar, so if you’re thinking about getting ice cream, donuts, or anything that could possibly give you 2 ½ cavities, please invite me. THANK YOU HEHE! <3
