Hello kasamas! My name is J.R. Ramoso (all pronouns) and I am your Political for this year. I’m a 2nd year interdisciplinary major studying Political Science, Sustainability, and Psychology. My responsibilities include educating our members on political history and current events from a Philippine-American perspective, organizing and mobilizing our members to act upon issues faced by our community, and leading the ABLE Program along with Community. I strive to continue the revolutionary legacy of our namesake Andrés Bonifacio, and I aim to create an inclusive space for all people, where we can empower, uplift, and connect with one another :)
My grandparents are from Pangasinan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Cavite. My parents were born in Quezon City and Makati, and they marched in the People Power Revolution as teenagers protesting the Marcos dictatorship. They immigrated to the US just before I was born in Brooklyn, NY. We lived in Albuquerque, NM for most of my childhood, but I would say my hometown is the San Gabriel Valley (626 represent yuh). I was in community dance teams and all-male throughout high school – attended West Covina HS, and graduated from Diamond Bar HS. I’m so excited for San Diego to become my new home shared with all of you.
Aside from community organizing and political activism, in my free time I like dancing, exercising, meditating, hiking, hugging trees, going on walks, going to the beach, going out to eat, watching anime, and spending time with loved ones. My favorite artist is Jhené Aiko and my favorite animal is sea lions (I love visiting the ones in La Jolla). AB Samahan was my lifeline throughout the pandemic, they’re my chosen family and I am so grateful for all the close friendships, meaningful connections, and heartwarming memories I’ve made through this org. I’m so excited to make even more and I hope you’ll be a part of it!
