I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m a 100% ecstatic to be your Associated Students Liaison for this year’s AB Samahan E-Board! My name is Daniella Luistro (She/Her/Hers) but you’ll probably hear everyone around call me Dani because four less letters is probably easier to say. I’m a second-year Chemistry Major with an emphasis in Biochemistry. I was born in Quezon City, Philippines, and I moved to San Francisco when I was about 4 years old. I grew up in Vallejo, California and lived there until I moved to San Diego in 2018.

In my free time, aka when I’m not hustling and bustling for Samahan, I love playing golf, going to the beach, binge-watching Netflix (my top 3 favorite shows: Criminal Minds, Stranger Things, and Sherlock), and watching Crash Course Chemistry videos for literally no reason. You might also find me sitting in the library and not actually studying… probably watching some K-pop dance practice video to be honest. My favorite boba drink is anything with milk and brown sugar, and I always, always, always get grass jelly!

I joined AB Samahan because transitioning from a school that was mainly composed of students with an Asian background to a school that’s barely 15% Asian, I struggled to find where I would be able to fit in. Once I found Samahan, the transition became so much easier. Even after the transition, I stuck with Samahan because I learned so much about myself and my culture that I never had before. It became a safe space for me to express the traditions and values I grew up with without any fear of being judged. I decided to be your A.S. Liaison because I had experience working with Student Government in the past so I know the in’s and out’s pretty well. My position is pretty simple: act as a bridge between AB Samahan and Associated Students and give biweekly reports of the things going on in A.S.

Anyway, I’m so excited to see how this year goes and I can’t wait for y’all to learn more about your culture and make new friends. Please come say hi to me if you ever see me around! Side note: you might have to yell my name though because 20/20 vision was a gift that was taken away from me in 5th grade ;-; *insert gif of Ariana Grande squinting and struggling to see* Hope to see y’all around, peace out!
